The Unknowing

Trapped.

But we have the choice…

We feel powerless,

lying there,

waiting for the results.

Bored out of our heads.

Time slowly moving fast.

                                                                                         Waiting.

And then the doctor comes

and tells us the possible bad news.

Something.

Or nothing.

They don’t know.

Just…

that there is something.

Trapped with the not knowing.

Knowledge is power.

And those in power

do not yet have the knowledge.

They are searching

to set us free.

But first,

they have to tell us

that we are trapped

in the unknown.

And so…

we,

you,

I…

wait.

Wait.

Wait.

Then the news arrives.

The power

to send us out

into the fresh air of the day.

Oh, how sweet it is.

How fragrant the air becomes.

Even with the car fumes,

behind it all,

we can still feel,

still sense something…

something much more

than those clinical rooms.

Whatever the outcome. Whatever the outcome.

Freedom,

in all its forms,

waits for us.

But in that moment,

where time is slowed

and yet moves

with the speed

of a tsunami on the horizon…

either we fly above it,

beyond the reach of fear,

or we go with it,

into the surge

of what must now be faced.
