Ego's Shadow

In sleepless nights, he toiled alone,

His ego, unseen, uncherished, unknown.

He grappled with questions, deep and dire,

Sickened that he was left in the cold, not by the fire.

As they were walking, his anger flared and burned,

'Why ignore my desires?' he yearned.

The loved one, saddened, could only see

A strife-filled life, yearning to be free.

The loved one, in a warm embrace,

Held close to all, with timeless grace.

No malice shown, no spiteful scene,

Merely oversight in the daily routine.

Understanding dawned, the ego's night waned,

Forgetting grievances, peace regained.

No malice intended, nor vengeful decree,

Merely set aside, unintentionally.

Was it blindness, or ego's quiet revenge?

The loved one sat, with time to mend.

With truth as a companion, in silent repose,

He pondered the heart’s mysterious throes.
