Remembrance

In the trenches, trauma permeated with fervent intensity,

Faces strewn across the frosty soil, terror gleaming in their eyes.

Numb hands clung to age-old harbingers of demise,

Their fate squandered on the whims of the chosen few.

We place our faith in royalty and the so-called elite,

Obscured by grandeur and ceremony,

Blinded by status and symbols,

Ensnared by ego and pride,

Our sight - diminished.

I stand resolute, unwavering on this battleground,

Confronting them head-on, I proclaim... REPUBLIC!

Let us not forget the lives sacrificed, for we permitted it,

Could we not have averted this tragedy?
